Salford Zine Library

I sent a couple of books to the Salford Zine Library, which has recently been featured in both Design Week and A-N Magazine. The library was created in January 2010 and aims to collect and showcase self-published work. A non-profit organisation, it relies on donations, details of how to do so can be found on its website

Here's a nice little picture of some of my books posted by my friend the illustrator Jonny Mendelsson or on his highly entertaining blog Down to the Cellar which displays some of the highlights from his wonderful collection of ephemera, books etc.

Some of these I no longer have a copy of myself. The red one at the front is probably from about 1992, while the concertina one a couple of years later which was I think a mail-out to art directors from the days when I was attempting to try to make a living out of all this.

The book I've been working on is actually a compilation of all the books I've made over the past 12 years.
It's due to be published in 2010, all being well, by Jonathan Cape.
For the people who contacted me for copies of the last Wild for Adventure book, the whole of that is going to be in there.
The book is divided into sections, twelve in all, and these are some of the borders which will form the chapter title pages, I'm currently trying to work out lettering for the central spaces...

'More Wild for Adventure' made it onto the Book by its Cover site I was thrilled to see. It's been the most time consuming project so far, and at the end of it I found I only had the will to make a fraction of the amount of copies I intended. It ended up with too many pages, and used up so much ink, plus it was so heavy, that it wasn't going to be very economical to sell through the usual channels. I've given them all away now and am having a rest for a while.

Ignatz

I was surprised, to say the least, to hear that 'Pond Life' has been nominated for an Ignatz Award at SPX (that's Small Press Expo) this weekend in North America.
Surprised because there were only about 25 copies sent over to the US, and I've never really considered it to be a comic as such. My ignorance of the whole comics world is such that I'd never heard of the awards, and am ashamed to say didn't even recognise the Krazy Kat reference until I googled it. It's great to get a bit of recognition and thanks to those responsible for putting it on the list.

Small Press Expo (SPX) 2008 will host the twelfth annual presentation of the Ignatz Awards on Saturday night, October 4 at 9PM at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The Ignatz Awards are a celebration of outstanding achievement in comics and cartooning, the nominees being determined by a jury of five comic artists.
